Friday night the Mustangs defeated the Fossil Ridge Panthers 38-33 to top off Homecoming week. A game that started out looking like a runaway victory as Grapevine got ahead 21-6, turned into a nail-biting finish.
The Mustang defense held off the Panthers in their last drive although the Panthers managed to get 508 yards in total offense.
The game had its ups and downs but a win is a win and we’ll take it. Leading the attack for the Mustang offense was #12 Christian Schroeder who carried 27 times for 162 yards and great performances by the Reed Ryan, Tyler Miller, Ted Hull-Ryde and Jake Popkin.
Grapevine now heads into a showdown with District 5-5A giant Trinity on Friday, October 23rd at Pennington Field. Both teams are 4-0 in district play and both teams are looking to move into the playoffs. This is also Trinity’s homecoming game so Trinity will be emotionally high. Trinity will be coming off a 49-14 victory over Keller Central. Some are calling this game another match of David and Goliath…nice bible reference.
